No-Fail Wedding Programs

I make wedding invitations. My creativity, although I can follow a recipe with the best of them, does not quite reach the kitchen. Instead, my creativeness lies on beautiful papers and rich envelopes in lines, words, and designs. But as the summer fruits and vegetables reach peak season, I am tempted to undertake some new recipes in hopes of achieving some semblance of brilliance in that room with the oven that I avoid as much as possible.

Well, as I appreciate easy recipes, I thought I would share one with you for perhaps one of the more frustrating pieces of your wedding stationery: The Program dun…dun…dun!

Basic Recipe for a Wedding Program

Ingredients:
• Names of Bride & Groom
• Date
• Location of Ceremony
• Front Cover Design (optional)
• Order of Service. These are Ceremony details so that guests can follow what happens as the officiant leads the service (your officiant should be able to give you a copy of the order of service)
-          Songs with artist names and performers played during ceremony
-          Readings
• Names of the Wedding Party
-          Parents of the Bride and Groom
-          Maid of Honor
-          Bridesmaids
-          Best Man
-          Groomsmen
-          Flower Girl
-          Ring Bearer
-          Officiant
-          Musicians/Readers/Speakers
• How you know each member of the Wedding Party (optional)
• Add a pinch of love with “Thank You” and “In Memorium” sections (optional)

Directions: Type in an email or Word document. Check spelling, especially names. Send to me at brianajoy@bjoyfulinvitations.com in exact order it should be printed. If you will be requesting a design, please send specifications and description. A proof, if requested, will be sent to you and once approved will be sent to print!

Variations for this recipe:
• Add a page for trivia about you as a couple
• Add a kid-friendly game to keep little (and sometimes not so little) ones busy
• Try a “Story of Us” section
• Include an Engagement Photo (you had those taken for a good reason!)
Planning a Destination Wedding? Here are Some Pointers for Ordering Your Invitations:

Planning a Destination Wedding? Here are Some Pointers for Ordering Your Invitations:

Do you dream about a romantic wedding in a foreign or tropical environment? You can make it happen! How? You invite close family and friends to your dream location for an intimate ceremony and celebration then return home to celebrate a larger reception with more of your favorite people.

What does this mean for your budget? Depending on how savvy you are, your bank account may not take the hit you’re imagining. When traveling as a group you have an opportunity to receive discounts on transportation and lodging. Many hotels in highly visited areas, such as Florida, Mexico, or the Caribbean, offer all-inclusive packages which feature lodging, food, beverages, entertainment, and gratuity for a set rate. This is a great way for your guests to enjoy a vacation on top of attending your wedding and this can often save you the expense of the rehearsal and reception dinners.

What does this mean for your guest list? If you plan to have a post-wedding reception upon returning home, you will have two separate guest lists. In order to prevent miscommunication to guests, you will also want two separate invitations.

Destination Wedding Invitations: These invitations will only go to the close family and friends invited to the destination where you will hold your intimate ceremony. Their formality should reflect the formality of your wedding and should include an itinerary for the celebration and accommodations information. Optional information you may wish to include will inform your guests about a rehearsal and/or rehearsal dinner.

These are a few of my favorite Destination Wedding Invitations (Check out the sand castles, flip flops, sea shells, tropical flowers, and more!):

Post-Wedding Reception Invitations: These invitations will be sent to all guests you wish to invite to the reception once you have returned from your dream destination as husband and wife! Their formality should reflect the formality of the reception and should mention that you will be married in a private ceremony and that the recipients are invited to a post-wedding reception only. Optionally, you may wish to include directions for your guests.

You may find great Post-Wedding Reception wording using the Versus Tool. Select “Wedding” and then select “Post Wedding Reception”.

Remember the Thing Behind the Ring!
12/31/2009 1:18:37 PM
The holiday season is here! I was away with my husband and dog visiting family for Thanksgiving and we didn’t return until the following Monday. My scarecrow was still taking residence on our fence post, the fall wreath still hung on our front door next to the giant pumpkin on our stoop, Thanksgiving décor still filled the house, and I’m pretty sure turkey still filled my belly.

Four days after Thanksgiving and, already, I felt so far behind! I suddenly realized how much my life is separated into seasons. Not just the four calendar or celestial seasons but as a wedding professional I am faced with different work seasons. Engagement season, Wedding Season, Bridal Show Mania Season (okay I made that last one up, but everything seems to happen all at once and all so quickly)!

Engagement season is here as well. How many of you brides out there got engaged over the holidays last year? There are quite a few of you and there will be many more this year. What an exciting time to be engaged! It’s hard to see beyond the cloud of joy and euphoria glow, especially with the holiday cheer already surrounding you.

Don’t forget to ENJOY IT!!!

You are only engaged once. You have a lot to do when planning your wedding, but don’t get wrapped up in the details. That is what you have wedding professionals for. Some brides worry so much about the wedding that they forget about the marriage and all of the incredible things that go with that.

Whether you will be engaged two weeks or two years before your wedding, remember WHY you’re getting married. Whether your wedding is perfect or a perfect disaster, be sure to enjoy your wedding day because of what it stands for.

I’m sure you’ve heard it said a million times: Remember the Reason for the Season…well, Remember the Thing behind the Ring.

I hope you’ll leave your decorations up as long as possible and make sure the holidays and your time to be engaged don’t pass you by! The stores are already set up for Valentine’s Day but it will not be Valentine’s Day in my house until February, when my snowman decorations will still be smiling in full view!

Happy Holidays!!!
Don't Forgo the Programs

Forgoing the Programs?  Don’t!

My parents attended a wedding last weekend. The bride was beautiful, the groom was happy, the flowers and decorations were gorgeous, the food was tasty, and the music was fun…but…my parents were embarrassed to find that the woman whom they thought was the Mother of the Groom the entire time was just a good friend.

The mother of the groom wasn’t even at the wedding…Oops!

If you don’t have place cards or menus at your wedding people will find seats and they will figure out what they’re eating, eventually, but if there is one thing you shouldn’t overlook at your wedding it is the programs. Wedding Programs are chock-full of information. The programs guide your guests through the day.

Wedding Program

These are a few topics to include in your wedding programs:

Bride and Groom’s Names
Wedding Date
Ceremony Location

Wedding Party
Parents
Grandparents
MOH & Bridesmaids
Best Man & Groomsmen
Flower Girl
Ring Bearer
Officiant

Ceremony Details (you should go over this part with your officiant)
Order of the Ceremony (ex: vows, rings, kissing the bride, blessing, etc.)
Religious Rituals
Special Customs
Music
Bible Verses
Special Readings (along with readers’ names)

Thank you

Honor Deceased Loved Ones
Draw attention to special items (if any)

Fun
Story of how you met
Trivia about the Bride and Groom
Game to keep kids busy while waiting for you to walk down the aisle (ex: connect the dots, maze, etc.)

Don’t forget: Each guest should receive a program. Parents sitting on opposite sides of their children don’t want to be passing the program back and forth.

The Big Day is about the bride. Okay, it’s a little bit about the groom too. Your guests shouldn’t be spending the ceremony doing the Who’s Who of your wedding!

Plavors: Favors that double as Place Cards

"Bride" Idea: Order Favors that Double as Place Cards (or Even Centerpieces)

Economy Blues have most brides cutting costs anywhere possible. Save the Blues for your wedding day...along with something old, something new, and something borrowed.

With this "Bride" Idea, you won't have to forgo the special details! One solution to saving on the reception is to order favors that can be personalized with guests' names. This can be done with a label, a tag tied with string or ribbon, by hand with a pen or marker, and even in frosting.

Place Cards + Favors = Plavors

This is a list of Plavors that we love:

Homemade Salsa or Jelly
Individual Cakes (Try Ally’s Indulgence)
Mini Vases holding Fresh Flowers
Mini Wine Bottles
Caramel Apples
Recipe Books
Cigars
Candles
Hand Bags
Mini Pumpkins
Ornaments
Luggage Tags (for destination weddings)
Hand painted Potted Plants
Lanterns
Flip Flops
Caramel Corn
Pumpkin Bread
Cupcakes
Spice Jars
Homemade Cookies
Mittens
Mugs
Apple Cider
Christmas Stockings

Any box, bag, bucket, bottle, or container will do!

Bonus: When guests bring their Plavors (Place Cards + Favors) to their tables, they help decorate the reception space.
